A White Perch Fish Derby was held on June 5th with
1,100 fish turned in. Mike Francouer, with five children helping, won
Prizes of $175 for 420 fish caught – all in the same spot. Dennis Ball
won the $75 Prize. Fish-netting and shocking studies performed by NYDEC
have confirmed that the large-mouth bass population is low and that
about 90% of the fish in the lake are white perch. Since white perch are
known to be avid eaters of the eggs and fry of largemouths and
bluegills, programs, such as the Derby and fish-stocking, will be used
to reduce the population.
The 20th Annual Panfish Derby for children, ages 1 to 15, is scheduled
for July 4th from 8 am till noon. This year, only White Perch and Carp
will be brought in for Prizes to be awarded at the boat-launce site at
12 noon.
The Annual 4th of July Boat Parade will begin at 2 pm at One Tree
Island. Prizes will be given for the Most Original and the Most
Patriotic.
The Annual “Ring of Fire” of flares will begin shortly after sunset on
the 4th. Flares may be purchased at the boat launch site a 12 noon on
the 4th.
Please be careful operating watercraft this spring and summer and,
remember, NYS speed 100 ft. from shorelines is 5 mph.
HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE
SUMMER!!
