On December 13th, the lake froze over but the ice will be too thin to walk on until the temperature stays down continually for several weeks. Please be careful when you go out on the ice, even if it has been very cold. Be particularly careful up at the north end where the Valatie Kill enters the lake and near the outlet – flowing water keeps the ice thin. Two years ago, two snow-mobiles went in at the north end and 12 years ago we lost a resident through the ice. So, even though you may have lived on the lake for many years, don’t assume you know whether the ice is safe or not.
